The Davao Inventors Association’s (DIA) official website will be launched soon. www.DavaoInventors.com was already acquired last December 2009 but development of the site is still underway; at present, anyone accessing the site will be redirected to www.dia.site40.net. Likewise, a blogsite (theinventors.wordpress.com) was also created to provide and receive information from DIA members. Hopefully, the site will publish: (1) past, current and future activities of DIA; (2) profile of every member,  his/her inventions and/or business(es); (3) seminars, trainings, or workshop schedules; and, (4) many more…

To be updated, each DIA member is encouraged to read information from this site and provide feedback if necessary.

The president of the Davao Inventors Association (DIA), Mr. Sangutan, reminded all members of the association that the time is nigh. It’s only about two months to go to conduct the National Inventors Expo and Mindanao Inventors Competitions. The big event will be participated by professional and novice inventors from around the country.

It can be noted that the National Inventors Expo was supported by the local government by unanimously blessing March 9-11, 2009 as the “National Inventors Week”. As Davaoenos and stakeholders of the big event, all DIA members

The world experienced and is currently experiencing  ‘energy crises‘. One of the Filipino inventors, Mr. Daniel Dingel (with Mr. Dayot) responded by developing a novel technology where only water is needed to fuel the motor vehicles. All of us were amazed with the invention… and we waited for so long on the progress of the “water fuel“! Where is the technology? What happen to the inventor(s)?!

On 20 December 2008, the tabloid gave us the updates. Our model inventor, Mr. Daniel Dingel, was charged… I was deeply saddened to the situation of our good friend.  We just pray and hope that he could overcome this new challenge in his life.

I wish to introduce the term ”InvenTreneur” which is defined as a person who invents or innovates and sells/commercialize his/her products (invention or innovation). In contrast, a “TechnoPreneur” is a person who commercializes technology whether he/she developed or just sells or re-sells the technology. Most of the inventors wanted to develop new technologies with the desire to commercialize these developed technologies. Nevertheless, there are also inventors who developed technologies with no desire (or do not have the idea or expertise) to commercialize their technologies.

Mr. Sangutan, a very successful inventor who is also the president  of the National and Davao Inventors Association, is fond of quoting the adage “Necessity is the mother of all Invention!“. I believe all of us agree to the idea. If you are going to read the biography of the great inventors in the US and UK, they all started with a technology that they feel needed by their immediate surroundings and, eventually, the whole world.

The Davao Inventors celebrated the natal day of Christ last 19 December 2008 at the DoST office, Dumanlas Road, Bajada Ave., Davao City. The Christmast party was participated by the inventors and some media group coming from the Davao region.

The Christmas party was embedded in the meeting of DIA (or the other way around).  One of the agenda of the meeting was to resolve on how to promote the National Inventors Expo 2009. The activity (the  Expo 2009) hopes to raise funds to support the inventors in the Philippines especially the inventors in Davao and Mindanao. For Davao region, Mr.  Sangutan, both the president of the Davao Inventors Association and  the National Inventors Association, envisioned to  setup the first Innovation Center in the Philippines.

Hon. Laviña (Davao City Councilor) and Dir. Tesorero (DoST Davao, OIC) attended the DIA meeting held last 12 December 2008, 6:00pm at the DoST Conference Room, Dumanlas Road, Bajada Ave., Davao City. The meeting was presided by Pres.Sangutan and was conducted in preparation for the upcoming National Inventors Expo which will be held on March 9-11, 2009 at SM Entertainment Area, Davao City, Philippines.

DIA New LOGO

The Davao Inventors Association (DIA) will hold the first National Inventors Expo here in Davao City on March 9-11, 2009. In preparation for the conduct of the expo, DIA will also launch its vibrant website to help disseminate information to all members and would-be members.

In addition, DIA planned to also change its LOGO as shown on the left. While the logo is still under development, please make suggestions on how to improve it. Click the image to enlarge.

The Davao Inventors Association is planning to setup an innovation center here in Davao City to support its members who are already in business and those who are still planning to setup their own businesses.

The services planned to be provided by the center are: (1)  Patent Application, (2) Business Permit Application, (3) Business Plan Development, (4) Product Design and Development, (4)  Prototype or Model Development, (5) Operation Management, (6) Financial Planning, and (7) Market Research and Marketing Strategies and Management. In line with this, series of seminars will be given  and mentoring will be provided.

Hopefully, in the near future, the innovation center can help in finding or matching business fundraisers, angel investors or venture capitalists.

As per advise from TAPI, we will have a joint meeting with DOST XI Project Evaluation Team headed by DoST XI OIC Mr. Ed Tesorero to be a proponent of the project because the FUND will directly goes to DoST XI not to DIA. EXECOM and all Committee Officers and members are required to attend to help finalize the budget. Your attendance is a must. Venue of our meeting will be at the DoST conference room.
